| Gospel:
"For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the
world, but that the world might be saved through him. (John
3:17)
St.
Vincent: "...we must imitate Jesus Christ who is the Apostle
of His Father, therefore the life of Jesus Christ which is
His apostolate, serves as an example for us all."
Our
Constitutions: "The apostolic vitality of our Congregation
is based upon our constant imitation of Christ, Apostle of
the Eternal Father. As He came into the world to serve and
not to be served, we give ourselves to our apostolate...with
a spirit of dedication and service." (# 66)
St. Vincent asks: "Do you want
a perfect example of the perfection of the heavenly Father?
You have it in Jesus. He became man to teach us how to live
lives of holiness and perfection."
Jesus was sent by the Father
that we might have an example to imitate as we strive to
be all God has created us to be. One who is sent is an apostle.
So Jesus came as the apostle of his Father and it was his
entire life, St. Vincent teaches, that was his apostolate.
As Pallottines, then, we are
called to imitate Jesus as the Apostle of the Eternal Father.
He is "the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of
all creation," as St. Paul tells the Colossians. His life
mirrors the divine image in which we were created and models
for us humanity restored to original grace.
In following Jesus, then, we
seek to imitate the qualities of his life: his way of relating
to the Father, his way of relating to friends and foes,
his way of dealing with life's joys and sorrows, his compassion
and unqualified love, his commitment to the Father and his
calling others to know the Father and serve in his Vineyard.
